Art Collection Postcards of the National Library of Latvia

The postcards in Konrāds Ubāns’ art collection of the National Library of Latvia contain examples from the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. There are postcards in the typography or photography technique, published both abroad and in Latvia, and obtained both as gifts and as compulsory copies. The digital selection covers a wide range of themes: holiday and congratulatory postcards, illustrations by Latvian artists, scenery of Latvian cities, landscapes, portraits of well-known people, salon photos, socially important and domestic scenes. Well-known Latvian graphic designers and photographers, as well as amateur photographers are among authors. The digital selection and the physical postcard collection as a whole reflect the diversity, changeability, and social circulation of the postcard medium from the late 19th century to the present day.
